September 9: Kickoff for TOC Monthly Professional Development Program

Join us at the September Professional Development Program to kick off the 2015-2016 TOC year with a unique and fun event!

“The Power of Networking: Is Your Network Powerful?”

Networking is a critical aspect to the success of those working in organizations. It can propel them to the next level professionally, while simultaneously enhancing different aspects of their personal life. As training officers, it is important to understand how to create an environment where powerful networking can take place.

The most powerful networking events connect people, build new relationships, strengthen existing relationships and provide opportunities for colleagues to collaborate, support, and influence each other’s success.

Our presenter,Mike Powell, is no stranger to TOC. This is his sixth year serving as the Vice President of Organizational Development and Training for the Powell Consulting Group (PCG). Prior to his current position, Mike was a Management Analyst at the Department of Education where he assessed the effectiveness of the enterprise risk management program at the Office of Federal Student Aid. He started his career as the Director of Recruitment, Admissions and Marketing for the Regent University campus in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Mike earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology from Hampton University and his MBA from Southeastern University. He has completed post-graduate work in Strategic Leadership at Regent University and is also a graduate of the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland’s program entitled “Becoming an Effective Intervener,” where he also serves as a Faculty Coach. Mike is also the co-founder of “Lifting As We Climb,” a nonprofit foundation created in 2003 which mentors young males (13 – 17 years of age) across the country.

This is Mike’s fifth year as a TOC registrant. He has attended and presented at several Annual Institutes and in 2014, Mike served as the Institute Chair in Norfolk, Virginia. He states that he enjoys the learning opportunities within TOC, where he can stay up-to-date on training and HR initiatives. Mike really enjoys working with people and places a high value in building and maintaining relationships.

Registrants who attend this Professional Development Program will have an opportunity to:

  • Participate in a “live” networking event to help enhance personal and professional networks;
  • Identify the elements of an effective networking event;
  • Understand why effective internal networking can be a powerful tool for leadership development and team building; and
  • Discover how networking events can help people align themselves to the vison and mission of the organization.

Whether you are a seasoned training officer looking for new ideas, a new training officer looking for career advancement, or just looking to expand your personal and professional networks – you don’t want to miss this month with Mike Powell!
