ShandaTOC Community

Dear TOC Registrants and Friends,

The Training Officers Consortium (TOC) Executive Board is continuously tracking the shifting news surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and the various authorities’ guidance. As a result of the current situation and out of an abundance of safety for our TOC family, we have made the decision to pivot to an entirely virtual program year, to include the Annual Institute.

We recognize we are known for our reputation of offering monthly professional development in person as well as yearly at our Annual Institute, where we could network and learn from each other with delicious meals as a bonus. We also understand a virtual option is quite a shift from our norm but your safety and the safety of all our registrants is extremely important to us.

Also critical to us is to protect the integrity and viability of TOC as an institution. To that end, every resource available to the Board is being leveraged to deliver the same great content and impact to our community in a safe, timely manner.

We need you!
As a small non-profit organization, we rely purely on volunteers to run our program and heavily on our registrants and vendors to support the cost we incur to present the program. We have adjusted the registration for the 2020-2021 Program Year to $750 (discounted to $545 for returning 2019-2020 registrants) and have also made singular events available for purchase throughout the year. In addition, we are offering a Virtual Annual Institute only registration for $350!

If you have not yet registered for this incredible professional development opportunity, please consider taking advantage of this amazing rate and support the Training Officers Consortium through this very difficult pandemic year.

A tough decision.
Please know that the Board attempted to negotiate other solutions to retain an in-person Annual Institute event, but because of financial guarantees, approaching deadlines, and massive revenue commitments to the hotel as detailed in our contract, the Board had to make the decision to transition to a virtual option immediately. Waiting to see if the current climate would change was not an option for TOC and would have caused more financial damage if we had to cancel it due to pandemic concerns later.

The Annual Institute, originally scheduled for April 25-28 in Williamsburg, VA, will be converted to a virtual Annual Institute. We are working on the specifics surrounding the Annual Institute schedule, but it will still be held the week of April 26th. Content and presenters will be announced soon! There will also be opportunities for you to get involved!

Embracing the to switch to virtual.
With all the continuous and rapidly changing news about the pandemic around the world, we want to reassure all of our registrants and attendees that the TOC Executive Board is taking the matter very seriously. The Board and Committees are meeting on a regular and frequent basis to keep track of the news and the guidance from our Federal and state authorities. We have also evaluated alternatives for the Professional Development Program. We have introduced new ways to connect and continue the community networking and professional development that we have become known for in our years of service to our registrants. To see the various offerings and the multitude of registration options this year, please visit us at:

Additional planned event news and updates will be coming from the TOC Executive Board on a regular basis. Please share TOC communications with those you feel may benefit from the activities. It is even more important that we come together as a community and continue to learn and grow.

On behalf of the TOC Executive Board, thank you for your continued support; stay safe!

Chair, TOC Executive Board
